LEFKOSA - ''Sovereignty cannot be bargained in return for the promises,'' said President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
''These are my last months as the president. I will pursue my struggle as an individual among my people,'' he added.
Delivering a speech to mark the 21st anniversary of foundation of the TRNC, Denktas said, ''during negotiations on Cyprus issue, my people always supported me. The world does not support us today similarly happened in the past.''
''Greek Cypriots wanted to remove 1960 agreements. We should remind that there are two separate peoples in Cyprus and two separate referendums were held for this. Nobody has the right to take our independence, state and sovereignty,'' he added.
''Nobody shall say 'this is the end of the issue'. If Greek Cypriots and their leadership do not accept the damage and harms they made on Turkish Cypriots and do not apologize, nobody can reach a solution regardless of any openings,'' he said.
