French president to make landmark visit to Libya

TRIPOLI (AFP) - French President Jacques Chirac is to make a landmark visit to Tripoli on November 24 following trips there by other European leaders, a Libyan official revealed.
The official gave no other details about the planned visit.
Chirac, on a stop-over in Hong Kong last month, said he would travel to Libya "before the end of the year" now that diplomatic relations with Tripoli had been restored.
Libya has been returning to international legitimacy since renouncing ambitions to obtain weapons of mass destruction and reaching agreements with at least three countries, including France, to compensate the victims of past bombings.
