LONDON (AFP) - One person was injured in the second passenger train accident at a level crossing in Britain in less than a fortnight, police and ambulance workers said.
The train from Lincoln Central to Peterborough, operated by Central Trains, hit the gates of a manned level crossing at Rowston, near Sleaford, at around 8.30 am (0830 GMT), police said.
One person was airlifted to hospital with minor injuries, but no other passengers -- reportedly including a number schoolchildren -- required treatment, added a Lincolnshire Ambulance Service spokeswoman.
Seven people were killed and 150 injured on November 6 when an express train jumped the tracks after crashing into a car that was stopped on the tracks at a level crossing at Ufton Nervet, near Reading, west of London.
Network Rail, the agency responsible for Britain's rail infrastructure, said the level crossing at Rowston had hinged wooden gates that a crossing keeper moves into position when trains are coming down the track.
"The train was not derailed and remains on the track," a spokeswoman said. "We have engineers and investigators on their way to the scene."
