Iraqi forces start to regain control of Mosul

MOSUL, Iraq, Nov 14 (AFP) - Iraqi security forces on Sunday started regaining control of the northern flashpoint city of Mosul from rebels, taking at least two police stations in the city, an AFP correspondent reported.
The Iraqi National Guard had deployed its forces in several districts in Mosul midmorning, as well as alongside the river and in the west of the city. Two police stations were retaken in the centre and the north of the city.
Armed with anti-tank missiles and assault rifles, members of the national guard were seen patrolling the streets in several districts.
Meanwhile, a convoy of 12 armoured US vehicles also started to patrol in the centre and the north of the city for the first time since the recent bout of lawlessness broke out in Mosul.
The US military also took up a position on one of the five bridges crossing the Tigris river.
