Demonstration Held In Front Of U.S. Embassy

ANKARA - A demonstration was held in front of the U.S. Embassy in Ankara on Saturday to protest the military operation in Fallujah city of Iraq.
Members of Confederation of Public Sector Unions (KESK), Confederation of Revolutionary Workers' Unions (DISK), the Work Party (EMEP), the Union of Chambers of Turkish Architects and Engineers (TMMOB), the Human Rights Association and several non-governmental organizations gathered in front of the embassy building by chanting slogans.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Selim Kilic, the secretary general of IHD Office in Ankara, claimed that the United States wanted to destroy the city, which became the symbol of resistance of Iraq people.
''There is not any information about civilian casualties. This is nothing but a tragedy. The Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government remained silent against such a massacre. We want the United States to end its occupation in the Middle East and withdraw its forces from the region,'' Kilic added.
The avenue in front of the embassy was closed to the traffic during the demonstration.
