ISTANBUL - The First Turkey-Spain Inter-governmental Summit was held in Istanbul on Sunday.
On the sidelines of the summit, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Spanish counterpart Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero held a bilateral meeting.
Besides the political, economic and cultural relations between Turkey and Spain, the EU related issues, Turkey's EU membership process, Spain's taking over the rotating EU presidency in the first half of 2010 and global developments were high on agenda of the meeting.
Delegations led by Turkish Industry & Trade Minister Zafer Caglayan and Spanish Industry, Tourism & Commerce Minister Miguel Sebastian, Turkish Interior Minister Besir Atalay and his Spanish counterpart Alfredo Perez Rubalcana, Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim and Spanish Development Minister Magdalena Alvarez Arza, Turkish National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul and his Spanish counterpart Carme Chacon Piqueras, Turkish State Minister & Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis and Spanish Secretary of State for EU Affairs Diego Lopez Garrido held talks on relevant issues.
Meanwhile, the Union of Turkish Contractors and the Association of Spanish Contractors (SEOPAN) signed a memorandum of understanding. The memorandum aims at further developing relations between the two associations and facilitating cooperation between Turkish and Spanish companies operating in the areas of construction and development.
