BAGHDAD, Nov 12 (AFP) - Twenty-two US troops and five Iraqi soldiers have been killed in the fight for Fallujah, and about 600 insurgents have also died, since the battle began on Monday, US and Iraqi officers said Friday.
"On the US casualties, at this point we have lost 22 coalition warriors, those who made the ultimate sacrifice," said Lieutenant General John Sattler in a video teleconference with reporters at the Pentagon.
Sattler said 170 US troops have been wounded in the fighting, of whom 40 have returned to duty.
