BAGHDAD - Turkish President Abdullah Gul said that he had the chance of holding constructive talks with Iraqi authorities during his two-day state visit to Iraq.
"We met with Nechirvan Barzani from the regional administration in northern part of Iraq earlier today. During the meeting, it was frankly stated that camps and members of the PKK terrorist organization took place in the region. We reiterated once again that everyone should support the fight against the PKK. Barzani said that the terrorist organization also harmed them. He also conveyed us that Masoud Barzani wanted to pay a visit to Turkey," he said.
President Gul said, "a Baghdad with a sound stance and powerful Iraqi security forces can resolve problems. Turkey will continue supporting Iraq in this process."
Highlighting importance of energy, President Gul said, "Iraq has a great potential in regard to the economic relations between Turkey and Iraq. We signed a comprehensive economic cooperation agreement yesterday. Iraqi authorities told us that it was the biggest economic agreement they ever signed with another country."
