BEIRUT - The secretary general of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) will chair a session in an international water forum in Turkey, his office said on Tuesday.
OIC's Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu will head a ministerial meeting of the OIC member states within the scope of the Fifth World Water Forum being held in the Turkish city of Istanbul.
The OIC ministerial meeting will take place at the forum center in Sutluce, Istanbul on March 20 and its theme will be "water vision for OIC."
Participants are expected to find solutions, and cooperate on water--the most important and sensitive matter for the Islam world.
Serving as stepping-stones towards global collaboration on water problems, the World Water Forum is a unique platform where the water community and the policy and decision makers from all regions of the world can link together, debate and attempt to find solutions to achieve water security.
The World Water Council's World Water Forum, organized every three years in close collaboration with the authorities of the hosting country, is the largest international event in the field of water.
The forum was held in Morocco in 1997, the Netherlands in 2000, Japan in 2003 and Mexico in 2006. (BRC-AÖ)
