ISTANBUL - Turkish president told his Iraqi counterpart on Tuesday that Turkey and Iraq would share happiness if they acted clever.
Turkish President Abdullah Gul met with Iraq's President Jalal Talabani at Istanbul's Swissotel on Tuesday.
The presidents mainly discussed general issues during today's meeting, as the relations between the two countries would be assessed in a detailed way within the scope of Gul's upcoming visit to Iraq, officials said.
Both leaders expressed their countries' will to use the cooperation opportunities between Turkey and Iraq in the best way, moreover, Gul pointed to the importance of security issue, officials also said.
"If we act clever, we will share happiness. If not, we will only share pain," Gul told Talabani during the meeting.
Gul also said that there was a remarkable potential for the improvement of commercial and economic relations between Turkey and Iraq.
