SHARM EL SHEIKH - Turkey's foreign minister said on Monday that a consensus should be reached among Palestinians.
Commenting on the international conference on reconstruction of Gaza held in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm al Sheikh, Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said that participating countries explained what actions they could take and how much resource they could allocate for Gaza during the meeting.
Noting that the most important thing was how such resources would be used, Babacan said, "the international community wants these resources to be used through well-organized mechanisms".
Pointing to the importance of reaching a consensus among Palestinians for the fulfillment of the reconstruction process of Gaza, Babacan said the committees established to achieve such goal would hold their first meetings on March 10.
"There are many issues that should be discussed by Palestinian groups. Turkey supports and will continue to support this process," he said.
Babacan also said that the Palestinian issue could not be completely solved unless the tension between Arab countries was overcome.
During the breaks between the sessions of the conference, Babacan held talks with officials from various countries as well.
Babacan, who met with foreign ministers of Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Syria and Britain throughout the day, also held talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora.
Bilateral relations, as well as the developments in the Middle East and Palestine were on the agenda of Babacan's talks.
Babacan and the accompanying delegation are expected to return to Turkey this evening.
