ANKARA - Akif Ekici, a deputy of main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) from Gaziantep, asked the number of businesses shut down and individuals who have lost jobs in the past five years.
In a question motion submitted to the Turkish Parliament, Ekici said that "the economic condition of Turkey has caused high numbers of unemployment, suicides by businessmen, increasing cases of both theft and snitch-and-run incidents."
In his question motion, Ekici asked "what is the number of theft and snitch-and-run incidents in Turkey in the past five years and the distribution of such criminal acts based on individual provinces? What is the number of Turkish businessmen or businesswomen who have committed suicides in the past five years? What is the number of Turks who have moved to urban areas from rural ones in the past five years? What is the percentage of the population that have found jobs after moving to urban centers? What has the government done in order to eradicate such negative developments in the economy in the past five years?"
Ekici's question motion was directed at the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
