TEHRAN - Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim said on Sunday that the railway project, which would connect Turkey, Iran and Pakistan, would bring prestige to related countries in the aspect of world trade and transportation.
Speaking at a meeting on Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul container train project which was held within the scope of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Tehran, Yildirim said that Turkey attached great importance to the project. He added, "we believe the project will carry our countries and ECO one step beyond in world trade and transportation."
Noting that Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul container train project would connect main cities of the three countries, Yildirim said that ECO`s international prestige would be directly affected positively when the project was implemented.
Yildirim said that ECO was a leader regional organization, and added that regional cooperation was influential to reach the goals in these days while the competition was ascending.
He also said that Turkey, Iran and Pakistan were key countries in east-west commerce.
Hamed Behbahani, Iranian Transportation Minister, said that Iran completed the necessary infrastructure to implement the project. He noted that great economic developments would be recorded in the regional countries thanks to the project, adding that Central Asia and Europe would be connected with railways through the project.
