TEHRAN - Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim said on Saturday that development of relations between Turkey and Iran, which were on an important place in world trade, would contribute to the regional peace.
Yildirim, who is currently in Tehran to attend the 6th Iran-Turkey Transportation Joint Commission meeting, met with Iranian Transportation Minister Hamed Behbahani.
Yildirim said that Turkey, as a door to Europe, and Iran, as a door to Asia, were completing each other, and the two countries were on an important route in world trade.
He said that development of Turkey-Iran relations on every area would contribute to peace, security, prosperity and stability in the region.
Noting that the trade volume between the two countries increased from 2.4 billion USD to 10 billion USD in the last five years, Yildirim said that transportation sector could play an important role to rise the trade volume to 20 billion USD.
Iranian minister also said that Iran wanted to cooperate with Turkey in civil aviation area, and hoping to sign a memorandum of understanding on this sector.
Following the meeting, Yildirim also met with Iranian Commerce Minister Masud Mir-Kazemi and Foreign Minister Manuchehr Motaki.
