Honda To Cut Down Production In Turkey As Demand Falls

ISTANBUL - Japanese carmaker Honda announced Thursday it would reduce its output in Turkey due to slumping demand in global markets.
Honda Turkey said it would move to a single shift from two shifts as of April 1 to cope with demand slump in its major export markets such as Russia and Ukraine.
Honda Turkey would reduce its output to 26,000 cars from 50,000 to adjust its level of production at its plant in the northwestern province of Kocaeli, the company said in a statement.
Earlier on Thursday, Ford Automotive Industry (OTOSAN) said it halted manufacturing at its factory in Kocaeli until March 16.
The decision to stop auto production came after a sharp decline in auto demand both in and out of Turkey, told a senior labor union official on Thursday.
Some 6,400 workers at OTOSAN will be on break until March 16.
