Nato-pa Italian Delegation Holds Talks At Turkish Parliament

ANKARA - The head of NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO-PA) Italian Delegation met with the chairperson of NATO-PA Turkish Group in capital Ankara on Thursday.
Sergio de Gregorio, chairperson of the Italian delegation, held talks with NATO-PA Turkish Group's chairperson Vahit Erdem at the Turkish parliament.
Speaking at the meeting, Erdem said that the dialogue between Turkish and Italian parliaments should be improved in order to boost the close cooperation between the two countries.
Erdem also said that Turkey and Italy, which had parallel opinions on world security, were the two key countries for NATO's Mediterranean dialogue.
The NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO-PA), formerly the North Atlantic Assembly, is an inter-parliamentary organization of legislators.
Rather than being established by the North Atlantic Treaty, NATO-PA is a separate entity from NATO, although it maintains a close working relationship with NATO. NATO-PA's Standing Committee meets annually with both the Secretary General and the Permanent Representatives to the North Atlantic Council.
NATO-PA's origins date back to 1955, when an annual conference of NATO parliamentarians was created. In November 1967, the North Atlantic Council recommended that an informal relationship be established between the two bodies.
