ISTANBUL - Ergun Ozen, the head of Turkey's Garanti Bankasi, said on Monday that projects aiming at reducing carbon emission would gain importance in near future and his bank would continue to contribute to clean development with its support for such projects.
Speaking at the signing ceremony of an agreement on French development and investment bank Proparco's granting a 50-million EUR credit to Turkish Garanti Bankasi, Ozen said that Turkey had entered a new era after the draft law enabling its participation in Kyoto Protocol became a law.
"Within this framework, projects aiming at reducing carbon emission will gain more importance. As Garanti Bankasi, we will continue to contribute to clean development with the support we will provide for these projects," Ozen said.
Commenting on the credit provided by Proparco, Ozen said that such credit would be offered for projects on clean energy.
Ozen also said that Garanti Bankasi mainly focused on projects in energy sector and the latest credit it obtained from Proparco would be offered for projects that would reduce industrial pollution and improve renewable energy and energy productivity.
Delivering a speech at the ceremony, French ambassador in Ankara Bernard Emie said that the financing opportunity provided by Proparco during the current unstable atmosphere in the finance sector, was a clear proof of the confidence between Turkey and France.
