Lawyers Of Agca Ask For His Release From Prison

ISTANBUL - Lawyers of Mehmet Ali Agca, assassin of prominent Turkish journalist Abdi Ipekci, requested release of their client from prison on Monday.
Dogan Yildirim, lawyer of Agca, asked the Uskudar Court to decide on release of Agca from prison.
Agca has been staying in prison for the last 26 years. He was sentenced to 36 years on charges of usurpation and to life sentence for murdering Ipekci.
Agca shot Pope John Paul II on May 13th, 1981 in an assassination attempt. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in Italy, but was pardoned by president Carlo Azeglio Ciampi in June 2000. Agca was brought back to Turkey, where he was imprisoned for the murder of Ipekci.
