BAGHDAD, Nov 6 (AFP) - One Iraqi was killed and three US soldiers wounded when a car bomb exploded near their convoy along the main road leading to Baghdad's international airport on Saturday, the US military and an AFP reporter said.
An Iraqi bystander was killed and another was also seriously injured, the military said in a statement.
"Three Task Force Baghdad soldiers were wounded ... when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated on their convoy in western Baghdad," the military said.
"The three injured soldiers were medically evacuated to a Multi-National Forces medical facility."
The explosion occurred around 2:40 pm (1140 GMT), sending smoke and flames billowing into the sky, the AFP reporter near the scene said.
At a nearby hospital, Doctor Kasim Mohammed said that an Iraqi woman had been seriously injured in the explosion.
A guard at the hospital, however, told AFP that she had been escorted in with three US soldiers and was suspected of being involved in the attack.
US troops rushed to cordon off the area, while helicopters buzzed overhead, the AFP reporter said, adding that the explosion was only a few hundred metres (yards) away from the main checkpoint on the way into the sprawling airport compound.
