STOP THIS TERROR
Ahmet Hakan Canidemir, a student of Kocaeli University, was attacked by snatch-and-run thieves aboard a passenger train. 18-year-old Canidemir was beaten and thrown out of the train by thieves. He was seriously injured. His father called on officials to stop terror of snatch-and-run thieves.
1,800 TURKISH SOLDIERS DUE TO AFGHANISTAN
Turkey will undertake command of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan together with Italy, Britain and Spain as of February of 2005. Turkey, Italy, Britain and Spain will undertake command of ISAF in rotation for a period of 6-8 months between 2005 and 2007. Number of Turkish soldiers to be sent to Afghanistan will become clear during NATO meeting in Brussels on November 23rd. However, sources said that Turkey was planning to send 1,800 soldiers to Afghanistan.
"YOU SHOULD RECOGNIZE US TO GET A DATE FROM EU"
Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos said that Turkey should recognize the Republic of Cyprus to get a date from the EU on December 17th for opening of entry talks.

CONVICT OF SIVAS EVENTS RELEASED FROM PRISON
Unal Berka, one of suspects of 1993's events in central city of Sivas was released from prison in line with the new penal code. Convicts have begun submitting petitions to prosecutor's offices to benefit from new arrangements in the Penal Code. Berka was released from prison yesterday six months before end of his imprisonment term. 37 people were killed in Sivas on July 2, 1993.
ROTH CHATS WITH TRUCKERS
Claudia Roth, the co-chairperson of the Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance in Germany, chatted with truckers at the Habur border crossing in Silopi town of northwestern city of Sirnak. Roth, on her way from neighboring city of Diyarbakir to Sirnak, chatted with Turkish lorry drivers for a while about possible dangers of journey to Iraq. Roth pledged them to make heard their concerns on different fora in order to find a way of resettling security in the region.

ERDOGAN CRITICIZES BARZANI AND TALABANI
Referring to recent developments in Iraq and Kirkuk, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Iraqi Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Barzani and Patriotic Union of Iraqi Kurdistan (PUK) leader Talabani of showing off. "We meet them when they come to Turkey. During these meetings, they pledge to act with Turkey. When they leave Turkey, they change their statements. There are not sincere. On October, Prime Minister Erdogan recalled Barzani his statement that Kurds would fight for Kirkuk. Barzani replied him, "I meant our fight against Arab people who came to Kirkuk during the era of Saddam Hussein."
EU LEADERS REFRAIN FROM DISCUSSING TURKEY'S MEMBERSHIP
Heads of state and government of EU-member countries convened in Brussels yesterday prior to the summit on December 17th. During the meeting, leaders refrained from discussing whether Turkey would be given a date for opening of entry talks.

DENKTAS: "TALAT HAS CHANGED"
President Rauf Denktas of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said that he could designate Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Mehmet Ali Talat to form the new government. "If National Unity Party (UBP) leader Dervis Eroglu fails to submit a motion to parliament about early elections, I will designate Talat. According to my point of view, Talat has changed considerably."
GREEK CYPRIOT SIDE THREATENS TURKEY
Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos threatened Turkey saying that they would use their right to veto if Turkey did not recognize the Republic of Cyprus till December 16th. Papadopoulos claimed that Turkey should recognize them to get a date from the EU on December 17th for opening of entry talks.

SHARIA DOCUMENT FOR COMPANIES
The agreement leading Turkey into the 'Islamic Private Sector' promises to support companies which applying all rules of Sharia religious law. The agreement about Turkey's becoming a member of the Islamic Private Sector was ratified by the Parliamentary Industry Commission. Ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) claims that Turkey would be able to draw capital from Arab and Islam countries after signing the agreement. The agreements signed by 55 Islam countries aims to develop economies of member states by encouraging their private sectors in line with Sharia principles.
SEZER CONGRATULATES BUSH
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer sent a congratulatory message to President George W. Bush who won a second term in elections in the United States. In his message, President Sezer said, "as two friendly countries, Turkey and the United States have been maintaining their profound cooperation and solidarity for more than half a century in order to preserve common values of the free world. I believe that our partnership will further strengthen during your second term in office as the president of the United States."

SLAIN TURKISH TRUCKER IDENTIFIED
Turkish trucker who was killed by insurgents in Iraq six days ago was identified as Suleyman Kudret, 59. His brother Asaf Kudret and his son Vedi Kudret left for Iraq to bring his body back to Turkey.
PORTUGAL EXTENDS FULL SUPPORT TO TURKEY
President Jorge Sampaio of Portugal received Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul who paid an official visit to Portugal. Extending Portugal's full support to Turkey's EU membership process, President Sampaio said that EU should set a date for opening of entry talks with Turkey without any delay.
ERDOGAN CONGRATULATES U.S. PRESIDENT BUSH
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a congratulatory message to President George W. Bush who won a second term in presidential election in the United States. In his message, Prime Minister Erdogan said, "we attribute great importance to the bilateral relations between Turkey and the United States on basis of our common values as our relations have a root deep in history. We consider the United States a friend, ally and partner of Turkey. We aim to enhance our bilateral relations. We do not have any doubt that our cooperation will continue during Mr. Bush's second term in office as the president of the United States."

OCALAN'S LAWYERS TO BE TRIED
Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office has taken urgent action upon allegations saying that Abdullah Ocalan, the head of the terrorist organization PKK who has been imprisoned on Imrali Island, has been ruling the organization through his lawyers. Prosecutor Nazmi Okumus filed a lawsuit against Ocalan's lawyers Dogan Erbas, Ayse Tugluk, Okan Yildiz, Bekir Kaya, Devrim Baris Baran and Ayse Batumlu. The lawyers are accused of informing PKK supporters on Ocalan's strategies by using the press.

IGNORANCE OF CHP
The Republican People Party MP Kemal Anadol has stated that the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government wants to convert Turkey's democratic system into one governed by the law of Shari'ah. Anadol accused the AK Party in its attempts to formulate an Islamic Private Sector. CHP strongly opposes a proposed law to accept the foundation of an Islamic Private Sector. "The Islamic Development Bank is sponsoring an international agreement to create an Islamic Business Sector in accordance with the principles of Shariah," stated one CHP source.
