Bush calls for world unity in anti-terror war

WASHINGTON (AFP) - President George W. Bush, fresh from his re-election victory, called on the world community to bury its past disagreements and unite in the war on terror.
In a post-election news conference, Bush promised to reach out to US allies and organizations such as the European Union and NATO and repair relations bruised by his decision to invade Iraq last year.
The president told reporters that Americans should come together to combat terror and added, "Every civilized country also has a stake in the outcome of this war.
"Whatever our past disagreements, we share a common enemy. And we have common duties to protect our peoples," the president said.
"I'll continue to reach out to our friends and allies, our partners in the EU and NATO to promote development and progress, to defeat the terrorists and to encourage freedom and democracy as alternatives to tyranny and terror," he said.
