Ryanair locks in GE Engine Services for decade-long fleet maintenance

Ryanair has agreed a 10-year engine maintenance contract with GE Engine Services, the General Electric division that won the work through competitive tender. The deal carries an option to extend for a further 10 years.

Coverage spans repair, overhaul, spare parts supply, and technical support for all CFM56-7 series engines powering the carrier's fleet of 59 Boeing 737-800s. It also applies to 96 firm aircraft orders and up to 123 options scheduled for delivery through 2010.

Michael Hickey, Ryanair's engineering director, said the agreement would "significantly reduce our maintenance and overhaul costs." No financial terms were disclosed.
