NARATHIWAT, Thailand (AFP) - A bomb killed one person and injured 13 in the southern Thai province of Narathiwat where 85 Muslim protesters died earlier this week, the defence ministry said.
The bomb was placed in a plastic bag, thrown into a bar and triggered by a mobile phone, said ministry spokesman Major General Palangkoon Klaharn.
An earlier report from an intelligence source said a beauty salon was targeted in the attack in the town of Sungai Kolok.
The town near the Malaysian border is popular with Malaysian tourists.
An outlawed separatist group earlier vowed revenge for the death of the protesters, six of whom were shot dead in a chaotic Monday demonstration outside Tak Bai police station in the province.
Another 78 suffocated or were crushed to death after they were crammed into trucks for transport to an army base in a neighbouring province. Another victim died of his injuries Wednesday.
"They will pay for what they have done, their cities will burn," said a statement posted on the website of the Pattani United Liberation Organisation.
Some 416 people have now been killed in a separatist insurgency which flared up early this year in the Muslim-dominated south of the mainly Buddhist kingdom.
