One policeman killed in gun attack on Iraqi police station

HILLA, Iraq, Oct 28 (AFP) - A policeman was killed and another injured on Thursday when gunmen attacked a police station in a small town south of Baghdad, the chief of police for Bablyon province said, adding that four of the attackers were caught.
"Armed men launched an attack on Thursday morning against the police station in Jibala, 40 kilometres (25 miles) northeast of Hilla," general Qays Hamza told AFP, referring to a larger town 100 kilometres (60 miles) south of Baghdad.
"They used light arms and rockets, killing one policeman and wounding an officer," he said.
Four of the people who carried out the assault were caught, but another three escaped, said Hamza.
The attack came as the Al-Qaeda-linked Army of Ansar al-Sunna said it has executed 11 members of the Iraqi national guard it had abducted, in a statement posted on its website along with photographs.
Iraq's security forces are a daily target in the violence that has plagued Iraq in the aftermath of the US-led invasion last year.
