Turkish Security Force Member Killed, Three Hurt

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey, Oct 27 (AFP) - A member of the Turkish security forces was killed and three others hurt in a clash with Kurdish rebels in the southeast of the country, local security sources said on Wednesday.
The incident happened in the rural Genc region in Bingol province when rebels from the KONGRA-GEL movement (formerly the Kurdistan Workers' Party, PKK) attacked a police station, they said.
According to the Anatolia news agency a patrol was attacked with grenades and large-calibre weapons.
Three Kurdish rebels were killed in a clash with government troops in the province of Tunceli in eastern Turkey, local authorities said Wednesday.
The PKK ended a five-year unilateral ceasefire with Ankara on June 1.
Since then, the group has been blamed for a series of attacks on government targets and clashes between the rebels and the army have increased.
The PKK has fought Ankara since 1984 when it took up arms for Kurdish self-rule in the country's mainly Kurdish southeastern and eastern regions.
The conflict has claimed some 37,000 lives.
