ANKARA, Oct 24 (AFP) - Britain's Prince Charles arrived in the Turkish city of Istanbul late Sunday where he is to attend the reopening of the British consulate targeted in a deadly bomb attack last year.
The heir to the British throne, who is then due to go to the capital Ankara, declined comment on his arrival in the country.
A statement by the British embassy in Ankara confirmed the prince would be at the reopening ceremony of the British consulate in Turkey's biggest city Istanbul.
The consulate was badly damaged in a suicide bombing last November 15 which cost the lives of 16 people, 10 of them consulate staff including the consul-general Roger Short.
The attack, blamed on a Turkish group linked to the Al-Qaeda network, coincided with another suicide bombing against the Turkish headquarters of a British bank.
Five days earlier bombers had hit two Istanbul synagogues.
In all 63 people were killed and hundreds injured in the four bombings.
In Ankara, the prince is to meet Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan before leaving Turkey on Tuesday.
More specific details of his itinerary have not been released for security reasons.
