ANKARA - Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer said on Saturday that the United Nations (UN) undertook more responsibilities in the present day in order to assure international peace and security.
Sezer issued a message on the 59th anniversary of foundation of the UN.
In his message, Sezer said that the UN, a universal organization with its 191 members, continued to inspire all humanity to live in peace despite ongoing threats.
Sezer said, ''Turkey, an element of stability in its region, has always supported efforts of the UN to help solution of current disputes, and prevent occurrence of new ones. Turkey also thinks that the Organization should be strengthened and made more efficient in order to cope with new problems in the global world, and therefore closely follows reforms made to restructure the organization.''
President Sezer wished peace and prosperity to whole humanity at the end of his message.
