PARIS - The Greens in France extended full support to opening full membership negotiations with Turkey, the party administration said on Saturday.
A statement of the party administration said that ''Europe would gain much from a secular Turkey, which respected human rights.''
The statement stressed that ''opening of negotiations between Turkey and the European Union (EU) would be a message of peace among nations.''
Turkey's EU membership process had an important place in Europe's political project, the statement emphasized.
The statement noted that ''full membership should be the target of negotiations.''
Pointing out that ''discussions in France (on Turkey's membership process) were raising concerns'', the statement said that ''discussion on whether Turkey was a European was not historically valid.''
