MOSUL, Iraq, Oct 23 (AFP) - A Turk and a national from the former Yugoslavia were killed and two other Turks wounded in an attack Saturday on a convoy of trucks delivering biscuits to US bases in Iraq, said police and witnesses.
The five-truck convoy was ambushed near the town of Balidiyat not far from the northern city of Mosul as the drivers were heading back to Turkey after delivering biscuits to US military bases in the Baghdad area, said one of the survivors.
He said their convoy was ambushed by six to seven gunmen in two cars.
The front of one of the trucks was on fire, another had its front window shield shattered and two others were riddled with bullets, according to an AFP correspondent at the scene, who saw the body of one of the victims.
The Turk was identified as Hassan Mustapha, an Iraqi policeman said, while the other driver killed was from the former Yugoslavia, according to the survivor, who gave no other details.
Attacks, kidnappings and killings of Turkish truck drivers have grown at a dramatic rate this year prompting many Turkish companies to stop working in Iraq.
