Trade Volume Of Free Trade Zones Increases 42 Percent

ANKARA - Trade volume of free trade zones in Turkey increased 42 percent to 16.1 billion U.S. dollars in the January-September period of 2004.
Turkish Foreign Trade Undersecretariat stated on Friday that the highest trade volume was recorded in the Istanbul Leather Free Trade Zone with 4.3 billion U.S. dollars.
The free trade zones exported goods of 5.8 billion U.S. dollars member countries to the Organization for Economic Cooperation & development (OECD). The trade with the other European countries reached 254.5 million U.S. dollars while trade with the Islam countries rose to 606 million U.S. dollars.
The Undersecretariat noted that 38,949 people were employed in 20 free trade zones throughout Turkey.
