Turkey belongs to EU if it fulfills conditions - Danish prime minister

PRAGUE, Oct 22 (AFP) - There is no reason Turkey should not join the European Union if it fulfils all the necessary political criteria, Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Friday.
Speaking during an official visit to Prague, Rasmussen said he expected the December EU summit to adopt the European Commission recommendation and give the green light to accession talks with Ankara.
"But the start of talks does not automatically mean EU membership. It will depend on Turkey, whether it fulfills the conditions and adapts its laws to the 80,000 pages of European legislation," Rasmussen told journalists.
"If Turkey fulfills what is expected of it, it will be a different Turkey," he added.
Czech Prime Minister Stanislav Gross agreed it was mainly up to Turkey to complete the integration process.
"It is mainly up to them but we should not be afraid of big things," he said.
