MADRID (AFP) - Carlos Sainz, the most successful rally driver in history, has quit the sport at 42 to devote more time to his family.
"I've decided on this change in my life to devote more time to my family after 16 years racing in the world championship," he said Thursday.
Sainz was world champion in 1990 and 1992 driving for Toyota and runner-up five times.
His 26th win the Rally of Argentina in July took the record from Britain's Colin McRae.
He had been driving for Citroen for the last two years.
