LONDON (AFP) - Charlton came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Newcastle at The Valley and maintain their unbeaten home record this season.
Wales striker Craig Bellamy headed the visitors in front just before half-time, but the Londoners were level six minutes after the break when Andy O'Brien put through his own net off a Kevin Lisbie drive.
Newcastle skipper Alan Shearer had an effort cleared off the line, before doing the same at the other end, while Charlton twice hit the woodwork during the closing stages.
Shearer, with blood pouring from a nasty gash above his right eye, said: "When we were 1-0 and cruising we said at half-time we feared a Charlton backlash. We knew (Charlton boss) Alan Curbishley would have a go at them, but it was a silly goal to give away.
"From then on it could have gone either way, both teams had chances, they hit the post and had a header off the line. But we'll have to go away and be happy with the point."
Charlton, who are celebrating their centenary, started sluggishly and let the Magpies dominate first-half possession, which they converted into a lead on 39 minutes when Bellamy clinically headed home a left-wing cross from Olivier Bernhard.
But six minutes after the restart, the home side were level.
Kevin Lisbie lifted the ball over Andy O'Brien's head before rounding Shay Given and sliding home a shot which deflected off Stephen Carr and O'Brien before nestling in the back of the net.
Given then saved a shot from former Liverpool man Danny Murphy, who then cleared a Shearer header off the line.
Dennis Rommedahl and Matt Holland then saw late efforst come back off the woodwork.
The point moved Newcastle into eighth place, 12 points behnd leaders Arsenal, while Charlton are in tenth.
