ANKARA - Sumer Hali (Sumer Carpet) decided to open shop under the name ''Sumer Hali'' in Beijing, China.
Sumer Hali which is one of the oldest institutions of Turkey, produces hand-made carpets for export.
Sumer Hali Director General Fahrettin Kayipmaz said, ''there is a rich sector in China which prefers products with trademarks. We will enter Chinese market with Hereke carpets which cannot be imitated and reflect Turkish traditional culture. We aim to establish a resistance against imitated Turkish carpets which are produced abroad.''
The finest of all Turkish carpets are undoubtedly those produced in the small town of Hereke near Istanbul. These high quality carpets, woven in Bursa silk, are the most highly worked carpets in the world. They have an average of 100 knots to the square centimeter but can go up to 225, 289 and even 324.
