BOCQUET DEFENDS TURKEY WITH LINES OF NAZIM
Alain Bocquet from French Communist Party defended Turkey with lines of famous Turkish poet Nazim Hikmet during the session which French Assembly discussed Turkey's EU membership. Bocquet said, ''today's Europe is not Renaissance Europe. It is a Europe where 20 million unemployed people are living and fell into clutches of capitalism that is global and militarized. However, Europe should be like in the lines of Nazim Hikmet's poem; ''To live like a tree, lonely and free; To live as brothers like trees in a forest.''
10.7 PERCENT INCREASE IN CIVIL SERVANTS' SALARY
The government fixed the increase in salaries of civil servants for next year. The highest salary will increase 8.1 percent while the lowest one will rise 12.1 percent. The average increase will be 10.7 percent. The lowest salary will rise to 525 million Turkish Liras in the new year.

A DEPOSITOR OF HALKBANK
According to a report of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Saddam Hussein, the former leader of Iraq, kept the money he earned from the secret oil trade with Turkey, in a confidential bank account in Turkey's Halkbank.
''A FAIT ACCOMPLI IN KIRKUK IS UNACCEPTABLE''
A special meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday night in which recent developments in Iraq were discussed in detail. During the meeting, it was decided that Turkey could not accept a fait accompli in Kirkuk city of Iraq. Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said they had been taking all kinds of measures against any possibility.
10.7 PERCENT INCREASE ENVISAGED IN SALARIES OF CIVIL SERVANTS
During yesterday's meeting of the Council of Ministers, the government decided to make an average increase of 10.7 percent in salaries of civil servants

10,000 GIRLS NOT GO TO SCHOOL IN ISTANBUL
With the directions of National Education Ministry, teachers in Istanbul are visiting each house in some districts and convincing families to send their daughters to school. Poor families which are convinced are given 150 million Turkish Liras for help. Until now, 2,000 girls have been sent to school by this method.
LEFT BY FORCE, TO RETURN DIFFERENTLY
Leyla Zana, who was given Sharov Award, and other members of Democracy Party (DEP) will visit Turkish Parliament when they return from Brussels. They were expelled from the Parliament by force in the past. Zana's profile at European Parliament is so convincing that Turkish Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc is planning to meet Zana.
HISTORIC CONFESSION FROM PAPADOUPULOS
Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadoupulos claimed that the United Nations (UN) had given money to Greek Cypriot side in return for supporting UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan in the referendum in April. Greek Cypriot newspapers quoted Papadoupulos as saying that Alvaro de Soto, the former special envoy of UN Secretary General Annan to Cyprus, had sent him a letter about the issue.
MERKEL TAKES STEP BACK
German CDU leader Angela Merkey, who opposed to Turkey's membership to the European Union (EU) and proposed a ''privileged partnership formula'' for Turkey, decided to give up her campaign against Turkey's EU membership.
GUL DUE TO CAIRO
Turkey decided to attend the International Conference for Iraq to be hosted by Egypt. The conference is expected to take place in Cairo on November 22nd and 23rd with the participation of representatives of neighboring countries with Iraq, members of the United Nations Security Council and G-8 countries. Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul will attend the conference on behalf of Turkey.

MEHDI ZANA DETAINED
Mehdi Zana, the former mayor of southeastern city of Diyarbakir, was detained. Zana, who returned from Brussels to Turkey together with his wife Leyla Zana, Orhan Dogan and Selim Sadak, the former deputies of the banned Democracy Party (DEP) was detained at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport due to some restrictions against him.
EURLINGS: ''EXPLAIN YOUR REFORM PROCESS IN A BETTER WAY''
Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul met European Parliament's Turkey Rapporteur Camille Eurlings. Eurlings said following the meeting that Turkey should explain its reform process to Europe in a better way. Stressing that Turkey had recorded great progress in the last two years, Eurlings highlighted importance of implementation of legal changes rapidly.

LAGENDIJK: NO RETURN FROM EU
Regarding Turkey's EU process, Joost Lagendijk, the co-chairman of the Turkish Parliament-European Parliament (EP) Joint Parliamentary Commission, said, ''I think the result will be positive and the entry talks with Turkey will start at latest within 9 months.''
NEW TCK BRINGS RELEASE
Courts which assessed demands of convicts under new Turkish Penal Code (TCK) decided to release many of them. The new TCK includes arrangements in favor of many convicts.

SAHIN: ''EU SHOULD FULFIL ITS PROMISE''
State Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin, who is currently in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on an official visit, said that those who said, ''isolation of Turkish Cypriot people should be lifted' should put it into practice. Sahin stressed that the European Union should fulfil its promises and start supporting Turkish Cypriot people.
UN SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE JILANI IN DIYARBAKIR
Hina Jilani, special representative of United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Human Rights Defenders, arrived in southeastern city of Diyarbakir. Jilani met Governor Efkan Ala and Mayor Osman Baydemir.
