28 US soldiers investigated over death of two Afghan detainees

WASHINGTON, Oct 14 (AFP) - Twenty-eight US soldiers are under investigation over the deaths of two Afghan detainees in US custody in December 2002, the US Army said Thursday.
The 28 are named in an official report into the deaths at the Bagram air base near Kabul, an army spokesman said, but he noted that they have not been charged.
The soldiers are from a military police reservist unit and an active military intelligence unit, the spokesman said.
They could face charges ranging from involuntary manslaughter to assault, maiming, mistreatment of prisoners and dereliction of duty, the spokesman said.
