CAIRO, Oct 14 (AFP) - Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat appealed Thursday for the Arab League's support in ending Israel's campaign in the Gaza Strip, the deadliest military operation since the start of the intifada four years ago, a spokesman for the pan-Arab body said.
Arafat urged Arab League chief Amr Mussa in a letter to "intensify his contacts with the international community to support the Palestinian people against Israel's official policy of killing and destroying and to revive the peace process, which is currently at an impasse," Hossam Zaki said.
"Mussa is following developments in the Palestinian territories with great concern and is engaging contacts with several international parties in an attempt to intervene and put an end to the bloody Israel campaign against Palestinian civilians," Zaki said.
Some Israeli military officers have called for an end to the offensive aimed at cracking down militants which strated on September 28 and has already left 124 Palestinians dead.
