Uprising In Buca Prison

INMATES THREATEN TO KILL THREE GUARDIANS

IZMIR - A prison uprising began in Buca prison in western city of Izmir early in the morning.
Several prisoners took three prison guards hostage and they threatened to kill them if their demands are not met.
Prisoners set their beds and bed sheets on fire early on Thursday, claiming that the prison conditions were not good and the prison warden had not solved their problems.
Firemen extinguished the fire and they are still waiting around the prison as a precautionary measure against possibility of another fire. Five people were injured in the uprising and they were hospitalized.
Some inmates who broke the windows shouted, ''we have guardians and we would kill them if our problems remain unsolved.''
Sources said that inmates were keeping three guardians hostage.
Gendarme teams were sent to the Buca prison and they took necessary measures.
Meanwhile, relatives of inmates who gathered around the prison said, ''we have concerns over safety of prisoners. We are expecting a statement from officials.''
