KAPLAN PUT IN JAIL
Metin Kaplan, the leader of the Union of Islamic Communities and Societies (ICCB) of Germany who is also known as ''Caliph of Cologne'', was put in jail. Kaplan, who was extradited from Germany to Turkey Tuesday night, was formally arrested by the Istanbul High Criminal Court no: 14. He was put in Bayrampasa Prison in Istanbul. Kaplan was wearing turban and robe when he arrived in Turkey by plane. When he was brought to Istanbul High Criminal Court, he was wearing a suit.
FINANCE PROPOSES 3.5-4 PERCENT RAISE IN SALARIES OF CIVIL SERVANTS
Ministry of Finance proposed a raise of 3.5 or 4 percent in salaries of senior civil servants and 6 percent raise in salaries of other civil servants. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will make the final decision on this issue.

DENMARK 1 TURKEY 1
Denmark and Turkey drew 1-1 in the World Cup European Zone, Group Two qualifier in Danish capital of Copenhagen last night. The match was refereed by Massimo De Santis, Narciso Pisacreta and Vincenzo Mitro of Italy. Tomasson of Denmark scored the only goal in the first half at 27th minute. Nihat of Turkey missed a penalty kick in the 59th minute after Thomas Helveg was booked for a hand ball in the area. Nihat scored the last and second goal of the match in the 70th minute.
CICEK: ''EU IS NOT IMPORTANT TO ME''
Justice Minister Cemil Cicek said, ''what is important is to grow up people who protect their country, nation and state. It is not very important whether or not Turkey will join the EU.'' Delivering a speech at a ceremony to mark the new academic year of Bahcesehir University, Cicek said that what was important was to protect values of Turkey.

TARGET OF PRIMARY SURPLUS REMAINS AT 6.5 PERCENT
Discussions on primary surplus between Turkish government and IMF ended. Higher Planning Board (YPK) announced that the target of public sector primary surplus in 2005 budget was 6.5 percent while growth rate was determined as 5 percent.
ERDOGAN: ''NATIONAL INCOME PER CAPITA IS REACHING 4,084 DOLLARS''
''The national income per capita was 2,600 U.S. dollars on November 3rd, 2002 in Turkey. It is estimated to reach 4,084 U.S. dollars now,'' said Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Erdogan delivered a speech at the 4th International Istanbul Retail Conference. Prime Minister said, ''Turkey continues to grow rapidly. The growth rate, which we set as 5 percent for this year, seems to be more than 10 percent. The inflation rate will be less than 12 percent by the end of 2004.''

FINANCIAL DISCIPLINE TO CONTINUE
2005 year budget was set as 155.5 quadrillion Turkish liras (TL). The government decided to maintain financial discipline for 2005, as it did in 2004. Primary surplus target in 2005 was determined as 6.5 percent. It was envisaged that exports from Turkey would amount to 71 bn. U.S. dollars while imports would amount to 104 bn. U.S. dollars in 2005.
COURT RELEASES ENGINEER SONMEZ
Adapazari Criminal Court released Recep Sonmez, one of the engineers of high-speed train that derailed in northwestern city of Adapazari on July 22nd, killing 40 people. Train Chief Koksal Coskun and engineers Fikret Karabulut and Recep Sonmez appeared before the judge. Court released engineer Sonmez at end of the first hearing while it decided that other engineer Karabulut would remain under arrest.

''EUROPE WILL NOT BE COMPLETE WITHOUT TURKEY''
Brussels which discussed Turkey again on Wednesday hosted a different meeting. Turkish women explained Turkey's new image in this meeting organized by ''Woman Initiative for Turkey''. They said, ''Europe will not be complete without Turkey.''
FINANCE MINISTRY SAYS THERE SHOULD BE GRADUAL RAISE IN SALARIES
Finance Ministry agreed with the proposal of gradual raise in salaries of civil servants that was adopted at the Mediator Committee meeting. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will have the final say on raise in salaries.

FULL SUPPORT FROM SCHROEDER
German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder continues to support Turkey's accession to the EU despite intensive opposition in his country. Writing an article to Die Welt newspaper, Schroeder said that a Turkey under the leadership of Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan deserved EU membership already.
''NO ONE CAN STOP US''
PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, ''the national income per capita was 2,600 U.S. dollars on November 3rd, 2002 in Turkey. It is estimated to reach 4,084 U.S. dollars now.'' Erdogan noted, ''the growth rate started to positively affect employment figures. Unemployment rate which was 10 percent in the second quarter of 2003 dropped to 9,3 percent in 2004. Figures have not reached the desired level yet, however this is a beginning.'' Erdogan said that Turkish economy was growing rapidly, adding that no one could stop Turkey.

LANDSLIDE KILLS ONE PERSON IN SURMENE
Landslide killed one person and injured another in Surmene town of northeastern city of Trabzon. A house collapsed due to landslide in Muratli village. One person died and another was injured after their house collapsed. Injured person was taken to Surmene State Hospital.
