NEW YORK, Oct 13 (AFP) - US stocks opened on a strong note Wednesday after strong earnings from tech giants Intel and Yahoo eased investor jitters, with a higher outlook for McDonald's also helping sentiment.
In the first trades, the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 41.07 points, or 0.41 percent, to 10,118.25 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite railled 20.86 points, or 1.08 percent, to 1,946.03.
A dip in oil prices from records hit this week created a positive backdrop, and investors took a cue from positive corporate news.
Intel's third-quarter profit jumped 15 percent from a year ago to 1.9 billion dollars, and revenues hit 8.5 billion dollars, up eight percent year-over-year.
"Intel's third quarter report largely met the lowered expectations and its fourth-quarter outlook was more optimistic than anticipated," said Alfred Goldman at AG Edwards.
Yahoo said quarterly net profit more than tripled as advertising and subscriber sales boomed to the sixth straight record high. And McDonald's said it expects third-quarter earnings ahead of current Wall Street estimates.
