Saddam Has Hernia Surgery at Baghdad Hospital

Saddam Hussein, held by US forces since his capture 10 months ago, successfully underwent hernia surgery roughly two weeks ago at Ibn Sina hospital inside Baghdad's Green Zone, Iraqi and US officials confirmed Tuesday.

Iraq's interim Human Rights Minister Bakhtiar Amin said Saddam is in good health following the routine procedure. A US detainee official echoed that assessment, noting the operation went smoothly and resolved the problem.

A Red Cross delegation visited Saddam at his detention facility in early October. His last public appearance was a preliminary court hearing in early July, where charges against him and other former regime figures were addressed.
