FORGETFULNESS PECULIAR TO TURKEY
The International Eurasia Marathon, which was run in Istanbul on Sunday with the participation of 110 thousand people, was not included in the world sports events schedule since Turkey forgot to pay membership fee of 2.5 thousand U.S. dollars to the Association of International Marathons and Road Races (AIMS).
MURDERERS KILL ANOTHER TURK IN IRAQ
Ansar al-Sunnah Army in Iraq killed Mahir Kemal, a Turkish contractor and his Kurdish translator. A web site released a video showing beheading of two hostages.
SUMMER-TIME TO END ON OCTOBER 31ST
The day-light saving implementation will end on October 31st, 2004 as the clocks will be set back by one hour. The summer-time which was adopted together with the European countries, has been continuing since March 28th, 2004. A total of 6.2 billion kilowatt hours of energy has been saved with summer-time application from 1990 to 2003.

UZAN SENTENCED TO 8 MONTHS IN PRISON
Bursa Criminal Court sentenced Young Party (GP) leader Cem Uzan to 8 months in prison and 693,569,000 Turkish liras in fine for defaming Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a speech he delivered during a political rally in Bursa.
FRENCH COMPANIES' INTEREST IN TURKEY
A French diplomatic source said that French companies were interested in privatization in Turkey. The source said that French companies had been waiting for decision of the European Union (EU) in December to invest in Turkey. The same source added that French Telekom was interested in Turkish Telekom and a French oil company had been waiting for privatization of Petkim.
FRENCH PARLIAMENT TO DISCUSS TURKEY
The French government decided to hold a special session at the parliament on Turkey's European Union (EU) membership process. Representatives of the government and the other political parties will have the chance of explaining their views during the session.

CAKICI TO BE SENT TO TURKEY SOON
Underworld boss Alaattin Cakici will be sent to Turkey soon. The Austrian Ministry of Justice ratified the court decision on extradition of Cakici to Turkey. Turkish Interpol officials will leave for Austrian capital Vienna to bring Cakici back.
NEVE SHALOM REOPENS
Istanbul's Neve Shalom synagogue was reopened nearly a year after it was closed following a string of suicide attacks in November 2003 that killed more than 60 people. Chief Rabbi Isak Haleva marked the reopening by saying that they would not forget Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's courtesy visit. Besides Culture & Tourism Minister Erkan Mumcu, foreign diplomats from Israel, the United States, EU countries, Muslim and Christian religious leaders, including Greek Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew, attended the reopening.

BARZANI: ''DO NOT INTERVENE IN OUR DOMESTIC AFFAIRS''
Iraqi Kurdistan Democrat Party (KDP) leader Massoud Barzani, who wants to found an independent Kurdistan in northern part of Iraq, did not step back from his statement during his visit to Turkey. He met Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul in Ankara yesterday. Barzani told Prime Minister Erdogan not to intervene in their domestic affairs. He said that their people would determine the future of Kirkuk.
HEKIMOGLU TO BE LAID TO REST
Muserref Hekimoglu, an author and longtime journalist who founded and led Turkey's first private news agency ANKA, will be laid to rest in Ankara today. She died of a heart failure and a liver problem at the age of 82 on Sunday. Born in Istanbul in 1921, Hekimoglu began to write for the weekly Hayat magazine. In 1972, she helped found the Ankara-based ANKA.

AGENDA OF NEXT DECADE
The European Commission's Progress Report for Turkey listed Turkey's deficiencies. Turkey has many things to do in the next decade to adjust itself with the EU norms and standards.
ANTALYA GOLDEN ORANGE FILM FESTIVAL ENDS
The 41st Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival ended with an award ceremony. ''Yazi Tura (Heads or Tails)'' of Ugur Yucel was chosen as the best long-feature film of the year. The film won 11 awards at the festival. Ugur Yucel won the Best Director Award. Olgun Simsek was presented with the Best Actor Award with his performance in the film.
TURKISH CONTRACTOR BEHEADED IN IRAQ
Turkish contractor Mahir Kemal, who was abducted in Iraq, was killed. Al Jazeera TV said that Kemal and his Kurdish translator were beheaded by Ansar al-Sunnah Army in Iraq.

''WE MARK THE NEW BEGINNING''
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, ''we want the European Union (EU) to consider Turkey as a future member, instead of a burden. We believe that the December 17th would be a beginning not only for Turkey-EU relations, but also for the new world.'' Taking the floor at the conference organized by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality on ''Turkish Local Administrations and the EU'', Prime Minister Erdogan said, ''some elements in the European Commission's Progress Report on Turkey contradict the principle of equal treatment of candidate states. We expect the EU to correct those elements in its decision in December. We want to believe that Turkey would not face any discrimination.''
ANKARA WARNS BARZANI
Iraqi Kurdistan Democrat Party (KDP) leader Massoud Barzani, who was summoned to Turkey after he said that Kurds were ready to fight for Kirkuk, met Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul in Ankara yesterday. During the meetings, Turkish party warned Barzani not to attempt changing the structure in Kirkuk, not to shelter terrorist organization PKK in northern Iraq and not to prevent opening of a second border gate between Turkey and Iraq.

PRESIDENT SEZER RATIFIES NEW PENAL CODE
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer ratified the new penal code. As a result, the penal code was amended after a period of 78 years.
UZAN SENTENCED TO 8 MONTHS IN PRISON
Bursa Criminal Court on Monday sentenced Young Party (GP) leader Cem Uzan to 8 months in prison and 693,569,000 Turkish liras in fine for defaming Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a speech he delivered during a political rally in Bursa. If the Supreme Court of Appeals approves decision of the court, Uzan will serve 3.5 years in prison.

COUNCIL OF MINISTERS SETS ITS SCHEDULE FOR EU
The Council of Ministers convened yesterday and discussed the European Commission's Progress Report for Turkey. Justice Minister and government spokesman Cemil Cicek said after the meeting that Turkey had some hesitations and they would launch initiatives till December 17th to remove those hesitations. Cicek added that NGOs would have an important role in this process.
322 PIECES OF HISTORICAL WORK OF ART STOLEN FROM MUSEUM
Unidentified people stole 322 pieces of historical work of art from the Archaeology and Ethnography Museum in Tire town of western city of Izmir. Police revealed that robber or robbers entered the museum building by removing iron banisters of a rear window. Tire Museum Deputy Curator Mustafa Baysal said that 322 pieces of historical artwork including gold and silver coins, were stolen from the museum.
