LONDON (AFP) - Britain's trade in goods deficit increased to 5.22 billion pounds (7.56 billion euros, 9.37 billion dollars) in August from a revised 4.97 billion in July.
Analysts' consensus was for a deficit of 5.2 billion pounds in August.
Data from the National Statistics office last month originally had shown that Britain's trade in goods deficit with the rest of the world had widened in July to 5.2 billion pounds.
The deficit with countries outside the European Union widened to 2.98 billion pounds in August from 2.76 billion in July.
Trade in oil with the rest of the world, however, showed a surplus of 321 million pounds in August, compared with a revised 42-million-pound surplus the previous month.
Official statisticians had initially estimated a 61-million-pound deficit for trade in oil in July.
