LIMA, Oct 10 (AFP) - A US citizen was arrested at the Lima airport after eight packets of cocaine paste were found in his luggage, Peru's police drug task force said Sunday.
Police said they had detained Branko Bacanovich, 50, a US passport holder, as he attempted to leave the country with a suitcase containing some 4.5 kilograms (10 pounds) of cocaine paste wrapped in eight packets.
Bacanovich had been attempting to board a flight bound for Spain after arriving here seven days ago as a tourist.
Police said he told them he had received the cocaine at a hotel in the capital and that it had a street value of some 3,000 dollars in Madrid.
His arrest comes a day after police arrested a German citizen, Antheo Dittmar, 37, who was also bound for Madrid with five kilograms of cocaine hidden in his luggage.
