Recovering Clinton Advises Kerry Campaign by Phone, Hillary Says

Bill Clinton, a month removed from emergency heart bypass surgery, has been advising John Kerry's presidential campaign by telephone while continuing to recover at home, his wife said Friday.

Senator Hillary Clinton told CNN following the second presidential debate in St. Louis that her husband was growing stronger each day and had been in regular contact with the Kerry campaign and with Democratic supporters around the country.

Clinton was hospitalized after falling suddenly ill before undergoing the bypass procedure. Hillary Clinton said his doctors would determine how active a public role he might take before the 2 November election.

She said her husband had been following Kerry's debate performances closely and called after the St. Louis contest to say Kerry "hit it out of the park tonight." She added that strong showings in both debates had been lifting his spirits during recovery.
