Turkish trucker dies of wounds sustained in Iraq attack

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey, Oct 8 (AFP) - A Turkish truck driver who came under attack in neighboring Iraq last week died here Friday from his injuries, Anatolia news agency reported.
Mehmet Ferhuzade Tanik was brought to Diyarbakir, the central city of Turkey's mainly Kurdish southeast, earlier this week after an initial treatment in Iraq.
No other details were immediately available.
Turkish drirvers have increasingly become the target of Iraqi insurgents -- some have been killed in road violence, others have been kidnapped.
Most of the hostages have been released after their companies pledged to stop operating in the war-torn country.
Ankara has confirmed the killings of at least two Turkish hostages in Iraq, while describing as "credible" a report by the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera channel that three other Turks had been executed by their captors last month.
