Strong quake rocks Philippine capital

MANILA, Oct 8 (AFP) - A strong earthquake shook the Philippine capital and nearby areas late Friday, driving residents outside homes and other buildings, seismologists and witnesses said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, the civil defense office said.
Seismologists here said the quake registered at least five on the Rossi-Forel scale, but the exact magnitude could not be established yet.
Manila residents ran out of their homes as the quake shook the city and nearby provinces around 10:34pm (1434 GMT), radio stations reported.
Motorists also halted their vehicles when they felt the ground shake.
