TOKYO, Oct 8 (AFP) - An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale shook northern Japan early Friday, the meteorological agency said. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The quake occurred at 4:31 am (1931 GMT Thursday), with the focus located in the Tokachi area of Hokkaido Prefecture, 800 kilometres (500 miles) north of Tokyo, the agency said.
The depth of the quake was 60 kilometres (38 miles), the agency said.
