PRAGUE (AFP) - Tomas Galasek has replaced Pavel Nedved, who recently retired from the international scene, as Czech Republic captain for their 2006 World Cup qualifier against Romania here on Saturday, team spokesman Lukas Tucek said.
The 31-year-old midfielder, who is also the skipper of club side Ajax, has captained his country in the past, including their 2-1 victory over Germany in the Euro 2004 finals when several players, including Nedved, were rested.
The Czechs also play Armenia in Erevan on Wednesday in another Group 1 match.
