Consortium claims it has agreed terms to keep Silverstone on F1 calendar

LONDON (AFP) - A consortium, including former world champion Nigel Mansell, claims it has agreed terms to ensure Silverstone remains one of the venues for the 2005 Formula One world championship.
The Northamptonshire circuit was dropped from the 17-race series by F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone because the British Racing Drivers Club, which owns the circuit, would not meet his asking price.
However, Brand Synergy Ltd, which boasts Mansell on its board of directors, claim to have found a solution.
Motor-racing entrepreneur Kim Cockburn, who is leading the bid, told Radio Five Live on Thursday: "We have agreed with Bernie Ecclestone to sign a seven-year grand prix F1 license.
"We share a vision to deliver and develop a marketing plan with the BRDC to make sure Silverstone stays on the map for many years to come."
The final deadline for a deal is Wednesday October 13 when next year's provisional calendar goes before the FIA world motorsports council meeting.
Only 17 out of a possible 19 dates are on the list so Ecclestone has left space for Silverstone to be included if he so wishes.
